On Sunday 22 February Staines Corps welcome Salvation Army officers Eddie and Kathy Hobgood Eddie and Kathy Hobgood are first-generation Salvationists who have been married for 36 years. They have 3 children; two of whom are Salvation Army officers in the USA Southern Territory (Middleburg, Florida & Burlington, North Carolina respectively) and a son who lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina. They have 7 grandchildren. The Hobgoods had, until 2012, served their entire officership in the USA Southern Territory in various corps, DHQ and THQ appointments. Prior to being appointed to IHQ they were the Territorial Secretaries for Programme, USA Southern. The arts have played a major role in the lives and officership of the Hobgoods. The Hobgoods were selected to produce the opening rally for the 2000 International Congress in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as direct the Congress musical, Godspell. In 2005, Eddie wrote The Turk: Sanctified Salvationist Showman, a story based on the life of Staff-Captain Joseph Garabed, one of The Salvation Army’s most colourful and unique officers. It has been presented across the United States, Canada, Argentina, the International College for Officers in London, as well as numerous corps and divisional gatherings in the United Kingdom. In 2007, Eddie was commissioned to write a musical about the life of Commissioner Samuel Logan Brengle, The Salvation Army’s foremost teacher, preacher and prophet on the doctrine of holiness, entitled, Brengle: My Life’s Ambition. It has been presented in the USA Southern, Eastern and Western Territories, Barbados, Jamaica, USA Southwest Division, London (Sunbury Court), England, Stockholm, Sweden (International Youth Conference), Argentina, Santiago, Chile and Bolivia and the Latin America North Territory. Staines Corps of The Salvation Army launched a leaflet outlining it's Mission, Vision and Values on Sunday 31 August during the morning meeting. The corps’ mission and vision aims to ensure that Staines Corps continues to be relevant to the changing needs of society, providing a resource to meet the needs of the community and a place of Christian worship for everyone. Our mission is underpinned by that of The Salvation Army. We believe in openly sharing our faith and the good news of God’s love for everyone, helping individuals to develop and grow in their own personal relationship with God, demonstrating a practical concern for all and speaking out against social injustice. Under God’s guidance, our vision sets out where we see God leading the corps, considering all aspects of its community and global activities. The vision will channel the resources and activities that will guide the corps community through the coming years. The vision will be continuously reviewed under God’s guidance and where local needs change. We believe that our vision and mission will only be achieved if we build upon a foundation of key Christian values. These values provide guidance for all those walking on the spiritual journey and who are willing to share in the vision. Read the contents of the leaflet in the About Us section of this website. Click here for a downloadable PDF of the leaflet.
