[title size=”2″]SA Stainash 0 v 3 Beacon Camberley[/title]

Last season’s Division Two champions were the visiting team yesterday as we kicked off our 8th season as a club.

Player/manager Anthony Kerslake had a strong squad to choose from and set the team up in a 4-4-2 formation with instructions to stay tight and close the opposition down quickly. The team did this well for large parts of the game and reduced Camberley to half chances. The problem was trying to create a real threat from ourselves on the oppositions goal. We created one clear chance in the first half which Camberley defended so half time arrived and the score remained 0-0.

With the roll on roll off substitute rule both teams did their best to keep legs fresh and all four Stainash subs were used early on. The game continued in a similar pattern with Camberley trying hard to beat the offside and get their strikers through on goal. Unfortunately after all our efforts in reducing their chances for clear shots on goal the first goal came from a set piece as Camberley’s in swinging corner was met in the six-yard box and headed home for 1-0.

The second was about ten minutes later as one of their midfileders picked up the ball 25 yards out of goal and managed to swerve his way past four of our players before finishing for a great solo effort. Very disappointing from our point of view.

Finally having failed to really trouble their keeper we were confirmed as finishing second as Camberley’s long free kick into the box was again met by a powerful header into the far corner of the goal for 3-0.

A tough start to the season but not without some positives to take into the coming games.

Come on you Stainash!

Anthony gave man of the match to Ross Davison. The ref gave it to Jason Foley. Well played lads.
